Zombie Squad 1.32.2

Brown days

Ready for a romping ride through hordes of vicious undead folk? Well, you're not going to get it here. But if you insist and want to try out this piece of garbage, you better make sure and cleanse your palate afterward by watching a proper zombie road trip movie.

Let's drive in, shall we? Zombie Squad hints at some innovative zombie gameplay with its title and icon. Unfortunately, there's nothing concerning 'squads' in Zombie Squad. This uninspired game here is an endless runner, except that instead of jumping and ducking, you're steering and shooting.

Zombie Squad

The main obstacles that you're facing are not the burnt cars and wreckage that might be sitting in the middle of the infinitely straight road, but the thin zombies that are roaming around the pavement. Most of the time you will want to kill these buggers, not only because they can cause you harm, but because of the cash bounty you get for each completely-dead one.

Cash is used to upgrade the stats of your car and gun. If you hoard for a while, you might also be able to acquire new vehicles and weapons. But waiting for that is not worth the effort. Unfortunately, higher performance doesn't translate into more satisfaction in Zombie Squad. You see, the cars and armament are not only ugly looking but very poorly animated as well.

This issue is also plaguing the level and the zombies themselves. Instead of being the primary attracting factor, zombies are barely visible and act like an annoyance. They're never in large enough numbers to feel threatening, but at the same time, they cling to your vehicle and stay there until you bleed to death, or you manage to wipe them off by coming close to an obstacle. That in itself is a fun mechanic in theory, but it's so poorly executed visually, that there isn't a pinch of excitement to experience during such a stunt.

Zombie Squad

There's barely anything else to talk about Zombie Squad concerning gameplay. Regarding the graphics, I already expressed my dislike for the models and animation, but I must also add one thing about the colors that the artists used. The color palette is comprised of only four hues. These are light brown, yellow-brown, greenish brown, and shitty brown, which I find very appropriate.

Final Thoughts

Zombie Squad is arguably the bleakest ugliest looking zombie game out there. The models are also very uninspired and poorly animated. The zombies are more of an annoyance than the primary game focus, and the gameplay is mostly dull. I don't see what's the big fuss with this one. It's a definite pass for any decent mobile gamer.
